چکیده

For a given undirected graph G, the maximum multiplicity of G is defined to be the largest multiplicity of an eigenvalue over all real symmetric matrices A whose (i, j)th entry is nonzero whenever i 6= j and {i, j} is an edge in G. The path cover number of G is the minimum number of vertex-disjoint paths occurring as induced subgraphs of G that cover all the vertices of G. We derive a formula for the path cover number of a vertex-sum of graphs, and use it to prove that the vertex-sum of so-called non-deficient graphs is non-deficient. For unicyclic graphs we provide a complete description of the path cover number and the maximum multiplicity (and hence the minimum rank), and we investigate the difference between path cover number and maximum multiplicity for a class of graphs referred to as block-cycle graphs.

Maximum Multiplicity of Matching Polynomial Roots and Minimum Path Cover in General Graphs

Let G be a graph. It is well known that the maximum multiplicity of a root of the matching polynomial μ(G,x) is at most the minimum number of vertex disjoint paths needed to cover the vertex set of G. Recently, a necessary and sufficient condition for which this bound is tight was found for trees. In this paper, a similar structural characterization is proved for any graph. To accomplish this, ...

Maximum Multiplicity of a Root of the Matching Polynomial of a Tree and Minimum Path Cover

We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the maximum multiplicity of a root of the matching polynomial of a tree to be equal to the minimum number of vertex disjoint paths needed to cover it.

An approach, based on the Smith Normal Form, is introduced to study the spectra of symmetric matrices with a given graph. The approach serves well to explain how the path cover number (resp. diameter of a tree T) is related to the maximum multiplicity occurring for an eigenvalue of a symmetric matrix whose graph is T (resp. the minimum number q(T) of distinct eigenvalues over the symmetric matr...

Detour Monophonic Graphoidal Covering Number of Corona Product Graph of Some Standard Graphs with the Wheel

A chord of a path $P$ is an edge joining two non-adjacent vertices of $P$. A path  $P$ is called a monophonic path if it is a chordless path. A longest $x-y$ monophonic path is called an $x-y$ detour monophonic path. A  detour monophonic graphoidal cover of a graph $G$ is a collection $psi_{dm}$ of detour monophonic paths in $G$ such that every vertex of $G$ is an internal vertex  of at most on...

Automatic QoS-aware Web Services Composition based on Set-Cover Problem

By definition, web-services composition works on developing merely optimum coordination among a number of available web-services to provide a new composed web-service intended to satisfy some users requirements for which a single web service is not (good) enough. In this article, the formulation of the automatic web-services composition is proposed as several set-cover problems and an approxima...
